Building a new
multi-sport Clubhouse

at Whitemans Green

  • The current HHRFC Clubhouse at Whitemans Green in Cuckfield, West Sussex is beyond repair and no longer fit for purpose.

  • Planning permission has been secured to build a modern, 2 storey sports club and larger car park operated under a 99 year lease.

  • Over £2.4m has now been raised independently by the Club over the last 5 years to fully fund this project.

  • The funding gap has been filled by grants from The Grundfos Foundation and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities via the Community Ownership Fund. These two grants took the Project fund raising efforts over the target for the initial build.

  • Fund raising is continuing to make sure the new Clubhouse is fitted out appropriately with a new commercial kitchen and other vital furnishings for the social spaces and meeting rooms. The new building will be open seven days a week, offering fantastic sport and social facilities to members and guests.

  • The Club has recently secured planning permission to build a single storey gym and three padel courts at Whitemans Green - this can be seen in the CGI images of the new Clubhouse. This development will ensure the long term commercial viability of the facilities by maximising daily use of the new building. It also extends the multi-sport range of inclusive and accessible activities for the whole community available at Whitemans Green, improving the health and fitness of adults and children.

  • The new Clubhouse broke ground in January with a completion target of late Autumn 2024. The latest drone footage and photos of the development are available to view on the Latest Build Photos page.

Inclusive and accessible for all

  • Rugby at the Club is an important source of physical activity, health and wellbeing and social interaction for all ages.

  • The inadequate accessibility of the current building, lack of suitable mixed-sex use changing rooms, limited kitchen facilities and outdated social space create barriers to the expansion of sports and other community activities.

  • This is particularly true for anyone with a disability and girls/women wanting to play sport.

  • The existing building is substandard and inefficient from an energy perspective.

  • The new Clubhouse will be sustainable, maximising energy efficient solutions - underfloor insulated heating, solar power, LED lighting, water management systems, recycling/waste disposal - as well as providing 6 electric car charging points.

  • The new building will bring enormous positive change for all sports clubs and community groups in the area.

  • To ensure no one misses out, the Club’s Rugby For All initiative supported by Sweeptech Environmental Services offers financial support to those who otherwise would be prevented from playing due to their financial circumstances.
